About One-Stop College Counseling
Laurie Kopp Weingarten, CEP
Certified Educational Planner
Co-Founder, One-Stop College Counseling
Director, College Admission Counseling
Laurie Kopp Weingarten attended The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where she graduated summa cum laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Beta Gamma Sigma honor societies. She then worked in marketing for several Fortune 500 corporations until she decided to pursue an MBA at Harvard Business School.
In her current role as Director of College Admission Counseling, Laurie guides students through each stage of the college admissions process. She is passionate about helping students reach their full academic and extracurricular potential; there is nothing more rewarding than their look of elation upon acceptance to their top choice schools!
For over two decades, Laurie was an alumna interviewer for the University of Pennsylvania, meeting with hundreds of students from various areas of the country. She applies this experience by coaching our students on how to improve their interview skills, whether it’s for summer internships or college admission. The students gain confidence as they learn numerous interview strategies, focusing on “do’s and don’ts” which include a discussion of appropriate dress code, relevant questions to ask the interviewer, and proper etiquette that begins with a firm handshake and ends with a thank you note.
Laurie visits various colleges and universities regularly and speaks directly with admissions officers to remain up-to-date on current admissions policies and practices.
Awarded the CEP by the American Institute of Certified Educational Planners (AICEP), Laurie has been recognized for achieving the highest level of competence in her field. Laurie is also a professional member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) and a member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), the New Jersey Association for College Admission Counseling (NJACAC), and the Pennsylvania Association for College Admission Counseling (PACAC).
After earning her MBA in Finance and International Business at New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business, Elsie played key management roles with several international banks and accounting firms including Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi, JP Morgan, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley and PricewaterhouseCoopers. However, her passion has always been educating and working with children and teens.
Employed as a vice president at Morgan Stanley, Elsie decided the time was right to pursue her passion, which would also allow her to spend more time with her three young children. In 2010, she assumed ownership of the JEI Learning Center in Marlboro. Elsie focused on strengthening the curriculum and implementing an individualized approach; the learning center’s enrollment has more than doubled since Elsie took ownership! The success of the SAT program led Elsie to create the next logical step. She co-founded “One-Stop College Counseling” in 2012.
Laurie Weingarten and I are perfect partners. We have continued to provide a high quality counseling service to our many students, and it has been so exciting to help them get accepted into the colleges of their dreams.
Matthew graduated with honors from Brandeis University where he majored in biochemistry and philosophy. He was elected captain of the varsity fencing team and received the University’s Scholar Athlete Award for having the highest GPA among graduating varsity athletes.
After earning his medical degree from the SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine, he completed an Executive MPH in Health Policy and Management from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. He finished first in his class at Columbia and received the School’s Award for Academic Excellence.
Matthew served as Resident and Chief Resident in Internal Medicine in Lenox Hill Hospital’s Department of Medicine. He later created and chaired the Division of Primary Care, became the Associate Residency Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program, and helped establish the Pace University-Lenox Hill Hospital Physician Assistant Program.
During his 10 years as Associate Residency Program Director, Matthew was responsible for managing the residency’s admission process. This included developing acceptance criteria, reviewing thousands of international and domestic applications, and interviewing hundreds of applicants each year. During his tenure at Lenox Hill Hospital he held academic appointments at Cornell University, New York University, SUNY Downstate, and Pace University.
In addition to his academic experience, Matthew has worked extensively with the pharmaceutical industry to develop educational content for physicians, virtual health care communities, interactive software applications, and data analytic products.
Matthew’s interest in college counseling began five years ago; both he and Laurie helped their two children tackle the college application process and gain admission to Ivy League universities. He is an active member of professional counseling organizations, attends conferences and meetings with admission personnel, and visits colleges regularly. As a lifelong educator and mentor, he looks forward to helping One-Stop students fulfill their educational goals.
